Professor Zhang, at School of Ecology, Sun Yat‑sen University, has long been engaged in scientific research in the fields of water resources, water environment, coastal systems, and marine ranching. Her research interests cover hydrodynamic process simulation, evolution patterns of water environment, estuarine and coastal ecological protection, as well as frontier interdisciplinary directions such as AI‑empowered ecological and environmental science and physics‑driven machine learning. She previously served as a tenured professor at Griffith University, Australia, where she worked for 23 years. She has led numerous major national and local research projects and maintained long-term collaborations with government departments, water authorities, international corporations, and academic institutions. Professor Zhang’s research outcomes have been widely applied to practical scenarios including optimal allocation of water resources, ecological restoration of coastal zones, flood disaster risk prevention and control, and smart environmental governance, providing solid and reliable scientific and technological support for ecological civilisation construction and sustainable development.
